Ikelite

The SLR port is the cylindrical shape front of the housing that contains the camera lens. The port removes easily and is available in various lengths to accommodate different lenses. A dome front is recommended for (35mm film equivalent) lenses 28mm and wider, and a flat front for macro and longer focal lengths. The seal of the interchangeable port system is the only design that allows you to see if it is correct. You can look through the clear plastic and see the

Ikelite Standard Port System

  • The Standard Port System offers a series of optical grade acrylic ports which provide exceptional quality at an affordable price. Each model is of a fixed length, thus different ports are generally required for additional lenses.

Ikelite Modular Port System

  • The Modular Port System allows you to build a dome or flat port out of universal components. The interchangeable port bodies and extensions combine to create endless combinations for maximum versatility and performance.

Dome Ports
  • Recommended for wide angle lenses, zoom lenses, and 1:1 macro lenses to eliminate vignetting. Standard and telephoto lenses will not benefit by using a dome.
  • Maximizing wide coverage is important with wide angle and zoom lenses. The dome port corrects for the refraction effects of water to maintain the same coverage angle underwater as above water. The dome functions as an optical lens in conjunction with the water to create an apparent image underwater much closer than the actual subject. The camera then focuses on this apparent image located just beyond the front of the dome.
  • The dome port offers no special optics above water and simply functions as a clear window.
Flat Ports
  • Recommended for standard, macro, and telephoto lenses as these lenses benefit from the refraction effects of water.
  • The flat lens on the port magnifies the underwater subject to appear closer and larger. Termed refraction, the flat port also narrows the coverage angle underwater. The enlarged image is beneficial for standard, telephoto, and macro lenses. Above water, the flat port offers no special optics and simply functions as a clear optical grade window.
  • Note that if a port is long enough to accommodate the full length of a 1:1 macro lens, the lens may vignette when used at infinity. If access to the lens' full range is desired, then select a dome port instead.
