AQUATICA D850

Aquatica is proud to introduce to you our new AD850 housing for Nikon's next-generation high resolution, full-frame DSLR. Reserve your unit now!

Design & R&D

We are proud of the lightweight design on our AD850; this being possible because of our new in-house 5 axis machine & our engineers being able to work closely with the machine programmer. This housing is 12% lighter than our AD800 & AD810 housings, but yet still has the same standard 90m/300ft depth rating and can still be upgraded to 130m/425ft. We then ergonomically placed the vital controls where they are most needed, right at your finger tips. Even though the D850 is a bigger camera than the D500, the AD850 housing has the same form factor and layout control as our popular AD500 housing.

The Nikon D850 camera main features:

  • 45.7MP Digital SLR

  • BSI Full-Frame Image Sensor

  • No Optical Low-pass filter

  • 4k Ultra HD video recording

  • 3.2'' Tilting touch screen

  • Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC & Bluetooth

  • Widest & Brightest viewfinder of any DSLR

  • Outstanding battery performance

New self-aligning controls

Another great improvement over our previous housings for Nikon cameras are new self-aligning controls. On the AD850 housing the On/Off lever and the Live view selector are spring loaded, therefore you will not need to insure the controls on the camera are properly set before closing the housing. In addition, the lens release, auto focus mode and the FN1 controls were moved to the saddle allowing the user to slide in the camera without pulling any levers.

The AD850 was designed to have all the following controls right at your fingertips:

  • Shutter

  • Front dial wheel & Rear dial wheel

  • ISO

  • WB

  • AF-On

  • Exposure compensation

  • Info

  • Live View

  • D-pad

  • A new AF-On lever was designed to allow all users, even those with smaller hands to simultaneously activate the AF-On and the shutter. This new lever has now been positioned ½ an inch lower and 1 ¼ inch to the front, as compared to previous models.

  • The ISO lever has now been placed right at your finger tips, it also has a very low profile, this keeps it just below the top of the right grip. It can be easily activated with your right thumb while keeping your hand on the grip.

Handling the housing is via our acclaimed moulded grips, these have been the industry reference in comfort for the last 25 years. These lightweight yet sturdy grip handles are made of one piece and cannot come unglued, fall apart or corrode. Grips are provided with standard sized mounting holes ready to accept the most current strobes and their supporting arms. On top of the housing is an extra mounting point for attaching a focus/video light or other accessories, three additional standard sized mounting points are provided on the bottom of the housing, there you can attach various brackets, support or a tripods.

The Aquatica AD850 housing comes standard with a Surveyor monitoring sensor. This sensor acts as a moisture alarm and can with the addition of a vacuum extracting valve an pump, be used for constantly monitoring the sealing integrity of the housing, adding another level of safety and peace of mind.

The Aquatica AD850 is supplied with our Galileo type eye piece. This high quality and coated optical finder gives a bright and full view of the view finder. For those seeking the ultimate in viewing for still image, the optional Aqua View Finder, available in straight and 45 degrees version, are among the best of the industry, they can easily be installed in a matter of a few minutes by the user. AQUATICA 7D MK II Housing

Much like it did with the initial 7D, Canon implemented autofocus technology usually reserved to its pro level cameras. The 7D Mk II picks up the strength of its predecessor and improves on them.

In its role as a still camera, the 7D Mk II benefits from a 65 points, all cross-type, AF module and a 150,000 Pixels RGB+IR metering sensor, giving it the iTR (intelligent Tracking & recognition) capability of the flag ship Canon EOS 1Dx, using this technology, the camera can determine automatically which AF point is needed to properly maintain focus on the subject selected initially.
With an upward boost of 10 frames per second, again a feature found on pro level cameras, the shutter is designed to go beyond the 200,000 actuations.

The 20MP sensor is of the same generation as the ground breaking 70D, so focusing in video is vastly improved in this area, and also pertaining to video is the addition of 1080p/60 shooting and the possibility to choose between .MOV and .MP4.

About the Aquatica A7D Mk II housing:

The Aquatica A7D Mk II is the only aluminum housing with built in TTL capability for Ikelite strobes, it combines the fine craftsmanship of our housings with the impressive knowledge in strobe technology from Ikelite. If the subject exposure requires it, the exposure correction dial for the strobe, which is conveniently located on the rear, close to one’s right hand, makes easy work of tweaking exposure, simply by rotating the knob with one’s thumb, even switching the strobes to full manual and controlling their power output can be done from this control.

The shell is made of top grade aluminum and stainless steel controls, both being the same alloys as used in the aeronautical industry. Precision machined from solid stock, anodized to stringent norms and powder coated for added protection, our housing are known to routinely go beyond 3,000 hours in salt water, and are the brand used and recommended on the two largest fleets of live aboard boats in the world.

Access to the camera controls is complete, with special attention been given to the controls of the video features, for which a smooth operation is always crucial when shooting video footage. Knobs are large sized, giving the user a better and smoother feel when working with cold water gloves, depth rated to 300ft/90m and up to 425ft/130m (free of charge) on request.

All in all the A7D Mk II housing is well balanced underwater, even all kitted up for actual diving conditions with modeling light and dual strobes , the A7D Mk II is easy to operate, with the housing vital mechanical controls accessible at all time. The right hand business side has controls over the strobe exposure compensation control knob, AF-ON and star (*) lever, ISO lever, aperture and shutter speed knobs, and the multi control array, buttons, all without having to remove one’s hand from the grips. The left hand side reaches the Zoom/focus control, the Menu, INFO, playback and other buttons.

AQUATICA D500 Housing

The new Aquatica AD500 housing is designed specifically for the long awaited Nikon D500 camera. With 21mp still image, 4K video possibilities, impressive level of low light performance, this Nikon D500 is a worthy addition to the DX format, a much appreciated sensor size for underwater photography.

THE CONTROL LAYOUT

Aquatica designed the AD500 housing by carefully selecting the features that will improve performance for underwater imaging. We then ergonomically placed the vital controls where they were most needed, right at your fingers tips. At the core of this housing design one can trace over 30 years of expertise in this field. Years of knowledge that have pushed us forward in incorporating new ideas, concept and technological advances to these constantly evolving imaging tools.HOW TO QUICKLY GET TO THE CONTROLS:ISO is one of the key controls in managing the exposure in video, hence particular attention was made in bringing this control at your thumb fingertip. Exposure compensation been crucial as well, a dedicated lever has been implemented for engaging it quickly when needed. The control pad can also be accessed quickly via a set of extended controls that brings it close to your right hand for easy access, same goes for the AF-ON lever with its wide range of optionsavailable through the CSM menu of the camera. The Fn1 lever located in front and Fn2 button on the rear also gives you access to a range of CSMfeatures. Two oversized and conveniently placed buttons give a speedy access to the info and Live View activating features on the camera, recording is as easy as pressing on the dedicated lever placed strategically close to your thumb.

HOW IT’S MADE

At the core of the design is the shell, designed on cutting edge software by dedicated individuals, machined on state of the art 5 axis CNC machine from a solid block of 6061 T6 aluminum alloy, the same routinely used in aerospace technology. This alloy is acclaimed for its high resistance to corrosion. The shell is then anodized to a MIL-A- 8625 Type 2, Class 2 speciation, and finally covered with a tough as nails, black polyester powder coating baked at a high temperature in order to be certified certified to A.A.M.A 2603-98 specification. This kind of protection is not superfluous, as evidently shown on Aquatica housings having logged over 3,000 immersion and which are still on active duty day after days.

Control shafts and push buttons are Type 304 stainless steel, another metal commonly used by the aerospace industry. It is controlled to be free of the iron contaminants that degrade quality and integrity of the metal, such as often found on the less stringent type 316, which unfortunately, is too often used in this industry.

The housing shell has two entry points for connecting strobes plus two others for adapting various accessories. There is a large 16mm diameter access point on the left hand side, ideal for connecting a monitor. Also located on the left hand side is a standard 1/2” diameter access point for the optional Surveyor pressure valve.

The best selection of strobes connectors on the market.Dual Nikonos bulkheads
